The Fad that isn't......

The unpopular culture in society is dieting. What I mean by dieting is the unsafe kind. This kind of dieting is used typically used by young women. Lots of young women have lots of self esteem issues and think that looking at magazines with skinny models is what society is looking for. These diets include weight loss pills and/or eating less. Self image is a big thing for women because we all want to look like the size zero in magazines. Many people look on the internet for ways to be super skinny. The thing that comes up are weight loss pills. These pills tell people that they will help you lose weight in days! They use celebrities that work out and they tell people that those celebrities used the pills and so should you. I read an article about Snooki, from Jersey Shore using Zantrex-9 diet pills and eating right. Most of the things I read she got paid to use the pills and talk about it. Another article says that what Snooki did was a bad thing. It was unhealthy of her to loss that much weight in that short or a span. Yes she is skinny but at a dangerous cost. She could of lost vile vitamins and nutrients with malnutrition. Also rapid weight loss can lead to exhaustion and dehydration. Many girls think that not eating will get them better results. This is called Anorexia which is an eating disorder where girls don't eat. They starve themselves to make themselves lose weight. This harms you by not giving your body the nourishment it needs. Then there is an eating disorder called Bulimia which an individual vomits their food or uses laxatives to lose weight. This causes individuals enamel in their teeth to decay do to stomach acid. You also get "chipmunk cheeks" do to vomiting over and over.
For a good diet that is healthy for you, it is good to exercise and eat right. Eating right does not mean to not eat, eat a big meal then skip the rest, or a tiny thing of food. It means to eat grilled not fried things. Less butter, eggs, and breads. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Exercise for at least a half an hour a day. Do something that you haven't done before. Walk longer, run, or go to the gym.
Back in the olden days models weren't super skinny and they were all so beautiful! This photo shows the example of the olden pin up girls. These girls weren't size zeros, they were healthy girls that modeled.

Back in the past we saw curves as healthy and sexy. Now in our modern day era skinny is what everyone is pushing. If you are not skinny or skinny enough it is not a good look. Girls in high school are always judging their self image. My cousins who go to Prescott High School are always talking about how fat they are. I think it is sad but I remember I was the same way. I know that healthy dieting is doing right for you body by eating the right foods and exercising.

Baby magazine

For the last couple of months I have received a magazine that I haven't payed for and it keeps coming. This magazine is called Baby Talk. It is a magazine that helps parents be better parents. This magazine helps with problems that you could have with your baby, items that are recommended for babies, information that some people wouldn't know about babies, styles of baby clothes, and personal baby stories. This magazine when read it makes you a better parent. It gives you wonderful ideas that I will use when I have a child. They have ads that will dress a baby or make their health better. They have the new motor development toys that will help children. Signs of bad health with babies that you can prevent. When looking at the magazine I started to realize why I started to read it was. The cute little babies and children in the magazine! They draw your attention to it and make you want to see it. Then after you have seen the cover of the cute kid you read the main articles. For examples: How Ipad can be good for babies, Why routines make everyone happy, 50 nursery ideas and (the one that got me hooked) The shocking news about babies and sugar. Going to the editors page I saw that she was a parent ( of course) and the there was also little tidbits from the stylists, executive editor, and managing editor. They were happy with the outcome of the magazine and one didn't even have a child. She wore maternity dresses and thought that it was a great dress. The advertisements that were in the magazine went from mothers expecting to mothers with with children. For the mothers expecting they gave you registry ideas to different places. The mothers with children get advertisements for medicine, items that would be good for the baby, and cleaning supplies safe for babies. With the advertisements it would go for any mom but it would be great for the ones with children at the time. They also make you want to item by putting a cute baby in the advertisement with a caring mother using the item to take care of the child. It makes you think that if you don't have that item, you are a bad mom. The wording in the magazine are all colorful and in different fonts to draw your eyes to the page and what is written there.

They also have cute babies doing cute things. There isn't one blank page. All the pages are covered with colorful items, baby pics, and information.  It makes your eyes go to that page. Most of the pages are in the magazine are advertisements for some sort of item. They are fillers to make the magazine look bigger. It reminded me of watching television, you have the show you are watching but in between are the commercials that you don't want to  see but they are there. All in all the magazine taught me a lot about babies. From what to eat that is healthy for you when pregnant that is lots of calories but you don't gain much weight from  to the signs of an ear infection in a baby. Makes you want to learn more about your little toddler :)

Myth Busters!!!

Myth Busters is a show that gets myths that everyone hear about and debunks it. They have solved over 700 myths since they started the show in 2003. Some of the myths that they look at are stories like "bull in a china shop", where a person in the early 1800's would tell clumsy people that they were like a bull in a china shop. Then there are myths about the ceiling fan if it can decapitate your head. That was one of my favorites! From the tests you couldn't get your head chopped off but you can get a very bad injury from it. They also used a modern fan that kind of looks like blades and that did the most damage. Another investigation was teaching a dog new tricks. They wanted to see if you could teach an old dog new tricks and they found out that you couldn't. The dogs they used were classified as old dogs. The dogs learned but were too stubborn to use them.  The myths about sharks were the ones that I thought were interesting too. I hate sharks and if I were in a situation with a shark I want to know what would happen or what I could do to prevent it. One example was if playing died made your chances of survival higher. Turned out that if you did play dead in a shark attack the shark doesn't want anything to do with you. The other one that I saw was if gouging a sharks eyes gets you out of their jaws when attacked. In this investigation they could decide where or not if it was true or not. They couldn't decide if they were able to or not. They couldn't put a human at risk so they built a mechanic shark that stopped what it was doing when the eye was hit. When they do investigations they approach the problems all differently depending on the situation. With the fans they made molds of heads and used different fans to see the outcome. With the bull story they took real bulls an put them in shops! They saw that bulls went around the isles but never touched them. They were dandy.
Myth Busters promotes critical thinking by voting weather or not the the myth would be busted or confirmed. They make you think of the outcome and what could happen. When they do the experiments you can change or keep your predictions. They show you different ways to get to the answer. They don't just do one experiment they do many to try to make possibilities to get to the answer. These answers get broadcast on television so everyone can get the answer. It goes towards huge audiences and appeals to everyone. These myths get people interested to learn. They appeal to the audiences with cars being blown up, breaking things, and other things that will appeal with people every where. Everyone wants to see if myths are true or not. They only think that it is true and don't have the chance, time or money to bunk it. Everyone just assumes what is true and goes with it. They go with the crowd and don't ask questions. When they watch the show the show can show people what could happen and what they think will happen. They also show what people think is true and they also give the facts.
For this assignment I was thinking to myself about what "love mark" I had and could not think of one! I started a new job and for this job I have a partner that I work with everyday! For the last couple weeks I saw that this girl had many of the same things. John Deere! She has a tattoo of the John Deere logo, car mats, and a John Deere tractor hanging on her mirror. I saw the assignment and asked her what her obsession with John Deere was. She told me that her obsession started when she was eleven. She lived out in California where there are no tractors but she saw the sign at a pawn shop and fell in love (which she ended up buying).  She didn't know what it was so she looked it up. She found out that it is a tractor based company and fell in love even more. Her mother died and she loved animals, deers being her favorite, so she was tied to it. It reminded her of her mother. She has anything you can think of John Deere! Her tattoo of John Deere was her first tattoo when she turned eighteen. John Deere reminds her of home and that makes her feel safe. She has three coco clocks, thirty different mugs, and other little nick-naks.  Her room is painted the John Deere colors. This is her "emotional branding" to be closer to her mother. She feels at home when there is John Deere around. She also said that it like her "trailer trash". She used to live in a trailer and John Deere is like the red neck style. She absolutely loves it! We started our conversation and it lasted all day! She is very dear to her John Deere stuff. After interviewing her I thought about it as well and I don't have an "emotional branding". I buy things because they are good products or they are in my budget. I have no emotional connection to my products. I don't have the same brands, they are all different. Some I don't even know the brands! Talking to my friend I am a little jealous that there is a brand that she has all that emotion towards and I don't even have one! I don't like Starbucks, I like to drink it but I worked for them so I don't like it as much as other people. I don't have any Apple products, or Macintosh products. Brands don't have any effect on me. I'm just glad that I found someone that had an emotional attachment to a brand that everyone knows!

Visit a classroom

Miller Valley Middle School is am Elementary school in Prescott. The classroom had twelve students all in groups. The is a third grade classroom and they were all learning about volcanoes. It was close to lunch time around ten o'clock in the morning. The classroom was a descent size with a small sink and water fountain in the back. They had two for the students to take book tests on one side of the classroom. The teachers desk was in the back on one side. They had two big windows on the far wall with plants and pictures hanging in the window. They had cursive letters hanging up on the wall and rules of the classroom.  They were learning about volcanoes. They learned that some volcanoes were dormant that dont erupt and some erupt once in awhile. They also learned about underwater volcanoes as well. They learned about magma and lava. Most of the students were paying attention and some would talk together. The teacher noticed the students talking and asked if they would like to share. They got embarrassed and said no so the teacher would continue. They used text books and giant diagrams. There was one student that was not at the learning level as everyone else and you could tell. The teacher gave everyone an assignment and then gave the other student a piece of paper and told them to draw a picture of a volcano. The teacher explained that the student should be in a special class but the parents denied the fact that the child needed help. The child didnt know how to comprehend the simple activity that everyone else was doing. After the volcano activity they read books until the bell rang for lunch. Some students that were done with their books took a test to see if they understood their book. They got points for the book they read depending on the level and how many pages it is. Sitting in the classroom, some of the children got excited that there was a guest. They would say "hi" but that would be it. The teacher interacted with the students with help and telling them what to do with their papers when they were done with them. The teacher would joke around with them too. He was a friend to them and wanted to help them succeed.
Going to school at that age there were the same elements in the classroom.  There was the cursive letters, the classroom rules that everyone had to follow, and the small sink. The reading of books and the tests were another element growing up. There was a goal that you had to reach and when you reached it you always got a prize depending on the school. This experience was great see. Watching the class was very inspirational. I also learned that all children learn at a different pace. There are slow learners and fast learners. How you handle that as well is a great way to becoming a great teacher.

Movie posters

Looking at this assignment I wanted to look up and see the different kinds of movies out there that were remade. The most movies that were remade were horror movies (of course) but some were old family movies. Freaky Friday, the Parent Trap, and the Karate Kid. Another family movie that is one of my favorites is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The movies are based off of the great book that I read as a child by Roald Dahl. It was my favorite book to read and the old movie gave the book justice (seeing how Mr. Dahl wrote the screenplay). The original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was made in 1971 which was directed by Mel Stewart. This movie is a very colorful and goes with the book. I remember as a child watching this movie and there would be some slow parts where you wanted him to go and you knew he was going but it took time to get to that part.
The movie poster speaks for itself. It is colorful and fun. From looking at it you can see Violet as a big giant blueberry. There is lots of color and creative picks from the movie that makes anyone want to see it. The second movie poster that I found has Willy Wonka almost juggling all the children that won the golden tickets. Its not as colorful as the first one but puts into the minds of people how fun and interesting the movie is.   The remade movie was renamed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was directed by Tim Burton in 2001 so it was a major turn around from the first. The bubble room wasnt in the second movie remake but it was very colorful then the first one and it was very interesting all the way up to the end.  You had a look into Willy Wonka's life on how he had an obsession with candy. It went deeper then the first and was very interesting. It wasn't like the book at all which was sad but it was better in my book.  Like all of Tim Burton's movies it was dark with a fun colorful turn around. The movie posters show you the major difference in the movies. The first one I found was just of Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. He is brightly dressed with the known cane and top hat. It just doesn't show the other people in the movie and what it is about. The second that I found is with all the children and Willy Wonka. It shows all the children with what they are good at and then there is Charlie standing next to Willy Wonka. There are many candy related things in the poster bordering the whole thing. It looks like candy cane trees and then there is the ever famous chocolate river as well. Between the two seeing the second one you will definitely know what the movie is about and what you are going to see. The first one is very dramatic and if the title wasn't there you wouldn't really know what the movie was about. These movies are both great movies and totally different from the years they are made.

Pop music Analysis

For a school assignment I have to analysis a pop music website. After looking at it and reading what had to be done I went driving. There are a lot of pop music performers and many different songs out there. I had different   performers in mind Lady Gaga, Adele, Justin Beiber, Katy Perry, Rihanna, and so forth.  As I was driving I heard a song that got to me. I have been having a hard week and this beautiful, meaningful song came on. The meaning behind the music was meant for a breakup song but the message is so clear and can go for any situation. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

Yes, this is Kelly Clarkson and yes this is my pop performer. Kelly Clarkson won the very first American Idol contest in 2002. I voted for her and was so happy she won. From interviews and many clips, she seems like a really down to earth person. All her music has a meaning and can relate to anyone. I found her official website and her website is simple and clean. When you first go on the website there is an atomatic slide show in the header of all the upcoming things. It talks about her tour, how her song can be purchased on itunes, and her newsletter.  On the very top there is a twitter feed that shows when ever someone is talking about her. You can also follow her as well. There is also eight different rooms you can go into from the front page. One called Buzz, Music,Tour,Media, Kelly, Community, Charity, and Store. I clicked into each one to see what they were all about. I clicked on Buzz and wasn't able to get in unless I wanted a virus or infection on my computer. I then clicked on music and there are comments about her. How everyone is her number one fan. She also has itunes on that page listing songs that you can hear a sample of and purchase. The next tab is Tour. When I scrolled over it it had two different options. Past shows and upcoming events. The past events list EVERYTHING that she has done back to September 19, 2009.  The upcoming events show all the shows that she is planning on going to up to April 14, 2012. The next tab is Media. The same thing happened when I went over Media. For media there are photos and the other option is videos. In the photo section there are many different photos. There are behind the scenes, photos of her different albums, fan art, fans that are look a likes, and much more.  In the video section there are many of her music videos. There are new ones and old ones. With the next tab its all about Kelly. There is her bio and  her blog. Her bio is all about her and her albums. In her blog she talks about how her two sites (kellyclarkson.com and kellyofficial.com) are going to be one! That was August 16 of last year. So the blog part was a little disappointing.  The only thing holding that section up is all the comments from fans. The community tab holds to different pages Kellebrities and Forum. The Kellebrities I didnt understand what the whole concept of it was but you had to signup for it. The Forum was a place for people to talk to other people about kelly related things. The next tab were charities that Kelly supports. There were March For Babies or March of dimes, Houses of Hope, and Im going to be your friend.
The last tab was the Store. It has shirts, hats, music, and other popular Kelly stuff. All in all the site is simple an just Kelly.

Fads and Trends in my LIFE

These are the Trends in my life:

The belt on the waist is a fashion trend for me. I always do this for my going on dates or out and about with certain tops. The tops that bunch below the chest area is prefect of belts. I always get the big chunky ones so I can get a perfect look. This look I believe will be here for a long time. It is chic and popular with everyone. I was always the one that got into fashions late but this fashion was very popular.

The next fashion trend for me is the off the shoulder shirt. I love this shirt and  I have made many and I have also bought many too. This is a very hip fashion that will be here for quite awhile. This can also work with the big waist belt concept too.

The next thing that is a trend in my life is Facebook. I go on this all the time and I might be just a little bit addicted. It is a great way to to catch up with friends that don't live in your state or in your city. I am able to talk to my best friend who lives in Maryland and also my family that lives in California. We all get to catch up without having to be on the phone. You can up in what is going on in your life and everyone of your friends will know! Myspace was the first thing that was a trend that turned into a fad when Facebook came. Sometimes I wonder if there will ever be a new social network that will come out that would top Facebook. But then I wonder what would top Facebook?

Then there is the trend that I love, pop music. The popular music that comes out whenever a famous artist makes a great single. Everyone listens to the music that is new and exciting. I only listen to the new stuff that is exciting to listen to. It plays on the radio on the way to work and it also plays on the satellite radios. Popular music that everyone loves gets played!

Weddings....I will have a wedding this year and it is a famous trend. If we didn't have weddings then everyone would be single and living together. We live in a world where everyone wants to be united and share a life with someone so we get married. This can be a big ceremony with two hundred guest or just you and your significant other with Elvis. Weddings can be a mix of anything, but bottom line is everyone is doing it, including me.
The fads in my life are:

One of my fads is Pretty Little Liars the TV show. Right now it is in season two and it is one of the biggest hits on TV. When it is over the fad will be over. I have it recorded on my DVR and I make sure I don't miss a single episode. The show is about four girls whose friend went missing and then found dead. All of the sudden they started getting mysterious texts from an A. This A knows about them and what they are doing. They soon find themselves fighting to keep all their secrets secret. It is a great mystery show and we still don't know who A is but will know in two more episodes! I know that once this show is over then I will start to watch another exciting show that has my interest. I think that this happens to all shows that the excitement is there with them and then once that are gone they are gone. The only show that I know of the is over but is still being played is Friends. That show never gets old! I have seen the same episodes over and over. Here is a trailer for the show!

The second fad in my life is Justin Bieber! I love his songs...he is a little to young for me but I love that he was founded on YouTube! It just goes to show everyone that you can be big by showing your talent on a network for everyone. I know there are a lot of people that get famous with what they do or someone they know does. He is a very talented 18 year old. This is one of my favorite songs by him!

The third fad was Pokemon back in middle school.  I used to collect them all! All the students in my grade would go out at recess and trade them with everyone. I never understood the whole battle thing but I thought that they were cute or pretty and only collect those. I recently went through a box and found my old collection. It was amazing to see that time and energy that I put into these little pieces of cardboard. I had them all organized by the number 1-50. I left spaces for the ones that I needed and put together the duplicates. I played with these and then YU-GI-OH came out shortly after that with cards. They were almost the same as the Pokemon but had a different story to them. You collect them by fighting with them. This was the card that I was able to battle my brothers with and won. I loved both these cards growing up. Now for the next generation Pokemon made more Pokemon to excite the children now. They are more complex and do more things. They also don't look like cute little animals that we can relate to. They are more modified and look like made up things.

The fourth fad is I phones. Of course phones always go out because a new one with better anything comes in. We are at the I Phone 4 now and I believe that when technology betters itself we will have a better phone out! Technology gets better and better all the time. In my case I wait till the better thing comes out so I can get the old thing cheap.  :)

The Fifth and final fad is video games consoles. I have an Xbox 360. I believe that video game consoles are a fad because like the iphones there is always a better one coming out. When Nintendo 64 came out it was amazing then it got better with the game cube, PlayStation, then Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, then the Wii. After awhile PlayStation came out with the "wand" , like Wii , to incorporate movement. Then Xbox 360 said that they could do that too and made the Kinect. Technology with video games is getting better and better just like cell phones today. Video games will always be a trend but the consoles will always be a fad. The new will always be the old in the future.

Man in Philadelphia jams cell phone calls on city bus

The news source that I use is Yahoo. I use this because of my busy life, I look at my emails and that is the first thing that pops up. I was scanning through the news feeds when this one caught my eye......

This wasn't the same video that I saw on Yahoo but it is the same story. The other story has the guy, Eric, talking to reporters in Philadelphia. The main story is about a guy named, Eric, who uses a jammier to jam cell phone signals. He did this saying, "A lot of people are extremely loud, no sense of just privacy or anything. When it becomes a bother, that's when I screw on the antenna and flip the switch. I guess I'm taking the law into my own hands and quite frankly, I'm proud of it." This contraption that he is using is ILLEGAL. It can not be used because it can stop frequencies to ambulances or cop cars. That can be very dangerous. After this story I was interested in seeing how many different sights I can get the same story from.
The first site that I got was as site called Huliq. This site had the same information as yahoo it just didn't have a video to match up with their news about it. It had the same quotes from the yahoo site but they also had information about someone on a train that was kicked off for talking on her cell phone. This is the video that was on it.
 http://www.huliq.com/10061/cell-phones-jammed-bus-philly-man-busted

The other site was a site called The Blaze. As yahoo and Huliq it had the same quotes but this time it had the video for the event. The only thing different was that it talked about a Japanesse invention that stops people from talking. It is called a "SpeechJammer". It muddles the speakers own words. It works by repeating the same thing that the speaker said that makes them pause in what they were saying. It confuses them.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/philly-man-took-it-upon-himself-to-quiet-city-buses-by-jamming-cellphones/

The next one I saw was called The Daily Caller. They had the same quotes as all the rest with the same video. It also had some photos of the guy who did it. Like most of the sites to they had advertisement and more news on other things.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/03/02/philadelphia-man-jams-cellphones-on-public-transportation-video/

The last site I got was the main site it was from. The NBC Philadelphia News was the main source that Yahoo got the story from. They were the ones who found the man on the bus jamming the phones. They did the interview with him and found out the truth about the whole ordeal. They found out that the device was ILLEGAL and let the man know what they found out about the device. Their site had lots of stories from their state with this one and advertisements.  This one was very close to the one that was on Yahoo with the quotes and everything.
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/video/#!/on-air/as-seen-on/Rider-Jams-Cell-Phones-on-SEPTA-Buses/140983823

From what I got from this assignment is that I trust Yahoo with their news. They get it from reliable sources and tell you the main details and don't put the extra garbage that you don't need to read. They get to the point and stick with it. I will continue to use Yahoo as a news source.

Tweets that I follow!

The tweets that I added to my blog are both teaching tweets. My dream and goal in life is to become a great elementary school teacher. I searched teaching, teachers, and elementary school teaching. The ones that I loved that came up and wanted to see whenever I log onto my blog were these two different twitters. One is Scholastic Teachers and the other one is K-3 teachers giving advice. I added these two because I want to be a elementary school teacher and these give great advice on books, quizzes for students, and other advice on teaching your students.
The Scholastic Teachers is a great twitter page. I remember when I was younger and I would order Scholastic books every month from school. They always had the best of the best on the order form. I still have some of my old books that I ordered. Those books always make children want to read because they test all their books with children to see what children like. The tweets tell all teachers which book is the best and what are in their top 50.

K-3 teachers give great advice on how to teach children different subjects and give you help on what you might need when teaching. They also answer your questions about difficult  problems you might be having. It is a great tool for teachers who might need a hand. It also talks about famous people and also careers of famous people so teachers can teach their students about them.
These are the ones that put on my blog page because I want to be the best teacher I can be. I know with the help of these twitter feeds that I can get knowledge about things that I need help with as a teacher. I am glad that I have found them and able to use them.

Here are the pages of the two that I love!
https://twitter.com/#!/k3teachers is the K-3 Teachers site
https://twitter.com/#!/ScholasticTeach is the Scholastic teachers site!

Movie Vs. Book!

For my class I had to compare a movie that was from a book. The movie I chose was The Hunger Games. I read this book in a week and couldn't put it down. The book was written by Suzanne Collins.  Right after I read the book I went to see the movie. The book is AMAZING! It is nothing that I have ever read before. The movie doesn't give the book justice.

The book and movie is about how different groups of children fight to the death for food for their district. There are twelve districts in this one world called Panem. There used to be thirteen but the thirteenth tried to over throw the higher, richer district called The Capital, to get power. They didn't win and the Capital destroyed district thirteen. That is when they created The Hunger Games. These games show the districts the power they have over them. They take a boy and a girl from each district and put them in an arena to fight for their district for food for their family. How they get into the games is crazy! The day they turn twelve they get their name put into a giant fish bowl. After every year they get double the amount. At age thirteen they get two. Fourteen three and so on and so forth. By the time they are eighteen they have at least twenty-eight of their names in the fish bowl. If they are having problems with food they can add their name to the fish bowl again for it. It is the lottery but instead you are lucky if your name isn't drawn. This is called the Reaping.

In the book and movie you meet the main character, a girl named Katniss Everdeen. She is a rebel and she hunts outside of  the fence that surrounds her district twelve. She is a great hunter! She hunts to barter with citizens in her district to get what she needs. She hunts with a friend that she is close to named Gale. She has a sister named Primrose who turns twelve the day of the reaping. Primrose gets scared that she will be chosen for the Games. Katniss tells her that there isn't a chance that her name will be called. When they get to the reaping they stand to  see who will be in the Games. The girls names get called first and Primrose's name gets called. Katniss, being the protector, volunteers herself in place of her sister. The boy that is chosen is Peeta. He helped Katniss when she was starving and couldn't find food. They both went to the Capital to learn to how to fight and survive the games. In the capital each district gets a mentor. These mentors won the games at some point in their lives. Their mentor was Haymich. He was a drunk and was never sober since he won with this he promised to be sober for them since they showed them that they were capable of being in the games. In the Capital they get introduced to all the districts. In this time the districts can bet on who will win. The district also gets Sponsors who help them in the games. They are rich and bet on who they want to win so obviously they help out as best they can. When the districts were introduced district twelve usually were forgot about. When Peeta and Katniss were introduced they were in a coat of flames. They were the most memorable district. In the capital they also have tests for the tributes by the gamemakers. The gamemakers make the arena for the tributes. Each tribute showed them their best and they use that to put the things that they are good at in the arena to help them. After they show what they can do they give the tributes a score that shows all the districts how capable they are to win. Katniss got the highest score out of all the districts! Once the scores are read they have interviews. After the interviews they go to the Games.

For the Games they all start on platforms until the the timer tells them to go. If they step off the platform early they would step on a land mine and blow up. In the middle of the arena they is a big metal basket that is filled with weapons, food, and other things that they would need. Haymitch instructed Katniss and Peeta to get water or food and avoid the basket. At the moment the timer goes off that would be the most deaths because everyone is wanting to survive. These children literally have to kill one another to survive. When the timer goes off Katniss was able to grab a bag before heading to the forest. In the book, Katniss gets a water purifier, water bottle, crackers, dried beef, a sleeping bag that reflex heat, a box of matches, a pair of sunglasses, and a coil of wire. After trying to survive for days without water, you see her slowly giving up. She finally finds water and you see her getting more hope of surviving. At night in the arena they announce who died so all the tributes see. After awhile there were only a couple of tributes alive. The Career tributes ( ones that are trained to volunteer to go in for people in the higher districts) and a couple of other districts with Katniss and Peeta. Katniss spends most of her time in the trees out of harms way. You see one night that Peeta is hanging out with the Careers. She over hears them talking about how they are trying to find her and kill her. She finds a nest of jacket trackers that the Capital made. They were made to keep peace with everyone. When someone was out of hand the jacket tracker would sting them. One sting would kill a person. Katniss uses the Jacket tracker nest to kill the Career tributes by sending it down the bottem of the tree where the Careers slept. Katniss ended up killing some of the Career tributes and escaping. She got stung in the process and Rue ( another district tribute) helps her recover. They decide to help each other out and destroy the Careers food bank ( the many things they were able to get when the timer went off). They didn't know how to survive without their pyramid of food. Katniss finds the food pile and destroys it. When she goes back to the "safe zone" where Rue would be waiting she finds her trapped. As she is getting her out another district tribute finds them and shoots Rue with his spear. Katniss is devastated and kills the boy. She surrounds Rue with flowers and goes off on her own. After awhile the Capital announces that they are changing the rules and the tributes in the same district can win together. Katniss goes to find Peeta, who is bleeding from a bad leg injury and takes care of him. They both hid in a cave and wait it off. They start a relationship together which gives them good stuff from the sponsors. The capital after awhile says that they will give the tributes each something that they would need. Katniss knows it is something that Peeta needs and she goes to get it. She is almost killed by a Career tribute when Rue's other district member comes and helps her. She is able to get the medicine that Peeta needs and his leg gets better. They start to get hungry and go hunting. Peeta finds berries that he thinks are edible but arent and another tribute dies thinking they are. They head to the lake to get water when they see creatures that the Capital made. They look like big ugly dogs. They kill Rue's district partner and start to chase the last Career tribute. They go to the basket where they are cornered on top of the basket. Katniss kills the career tribute to save Peeta. Right when they are the last tributes standing the Capital changes the rules back to one winner. Peeta and Katniss both decide to both take their lives with the berries that Peeta picked. Right before they do the Capital announces that they won and takes them back to the Capital. They get a heros welcome and go back to their district to celebrate.

That is the basis of the book. If it seems like that was a fast summary....that is how the movie was. It was actually less then what I said. Like all movies, there are many details that aren't mentioned from the book.  In the book, there are many details that werent mentioned in the movie.

One detail I forgot to mention was that Katniss received a mockingjay pin. A mocking jay was another invention that the Capital made. They were spies for the Capital that would repeat anything that they would hear. They started to get annoying and the stuff they were repeating didn't make sense so they let them go. Katniss and Rue used them to signal to each other. The pin was given to her by a friend for the reaping for good luck. In the movie she found the pin in the market place that was given to her by an old lady. The character, Madge, who she went to school with, wasn't mentioned.

With the book it is all narrated by Katniss. Katniss tells the story through her thoughts and what is happening at that moment. How they do that in the movie is having the Capital tell what is happening like the news ( they record the Games through tv so everyone can see).

In the movie you see more of Katniss's world of her district. You see the people and how the district is "trapped". You see the fences as you read. The "protection" that the Capital gives. In the movie you see a sliver and that is it. You go to her secret hunting place and then its the reaping.

In the book, when Katniss helps Rue and Rue die, she gets a gift from Rue's district of appreciation. They give her a bread loaf. In the movie, they destroy their district in rage.

At the end of the book Peeta and Katniss actually put the berries in their mouths and when they are announced that they won they spit the berries out and look at each other to make sure that they didn't die. In the movie they are about to eat the berries but they are stopped before it even reaches their mouths.

In the book, after the games Peeta is taken to the emergency room because the cream that Katniss got only helps disinfect this wound but doesn't heal it and Katniss doesn't see him for days. In the movie his wounds magically heal from the cream that Katniss gets at the basket and they celebrate their survival when the games are done.

In the book, Katniss is a tough nut. You couldn't crack her and she really didn't have feelings. She protected her sister and when she was in the games her only focus was to win. She was strong in the book and started to have feelings for Peeta at the end. In the movie they made it seem like it wasn't real (Peeta's and Katniss's relationship).

In the book they also made Peeta look sweet, soft, and strong.  In the movie they made him look like a wuss. In the book you saw the struggle that Katniss went through and almost died in the Games. In the movie you see her not even struggling. Its easy for her in the movie. That made me so upset.

If someone asked me which one did you like, movie or book, I would say the book ten fold. It was so well written and nothing I have read!

Wedding stress

So I have planned my wedding for 2 years now. There was a place that I wanted but you needed a hefty membership to get in (like thousands of dollars). Now this year it is open to the public and I am able to get it....only problem is I have to change the date. Good thing about it is that it will be sooner, bad thing about it is that it isn't the date that my fiance and I picked out..... I now have a stress ball the size of the world on my shoulders. I have to now change the dates with all the vendors I have and hope to god that they have that date available! Man, why can't planning my wedding be easy and not have to involve migraines and headaches.
